Looking for an easy and affordable way to decorate your front door for St. Patrick’s Day? This DIY shamrock wall hanging is made with simple dollar-store wire straw hearts, attached to create a festive clover shape. It’s lightweight, budget-friendly, and easy to customize with ribbon, glitter accents or even a bow!

What You’ll Need
- 3 (or 4) Wire straw-wrapped hearts
- Floral wire
- Hot glue gun + glue sticks
- Decorative ribbon(optional)
- Jute Rope
- Scissors
Step-by-Step Shamrock Wall Hanging Instructions
Step 1: Arrange the Hearts
If you purchased your hearts from the Dollar Tree, remove theribbon hanger from each heart.
Lay the three straw hearts flat on a table. Position them so the pointed ends meet in the center and the rounded tops face outward. This creates the classic three-leaf shamrock shape.
Adjust them until they look even and shamrock-shaped.
Step 2: Secure the Hearts Together
Use floral wire or zip ties to tightly secure the hearts where they meet in the center. Wrap the wire around the metal frame portions for the strongest hold. Secure the hearts together with hot glue. The wire holds them in place, but the glue acts as a stabilizer, keeping them snuggly together.
Step 3: Add trim around Outer Edge
Using your hot glue gun, add a bead of hot glue to the outside of the shamrock, adhering the jute rope as you go. This step is optional, but it gives the shamrock definition. For extra durability (especially for outdoor doors), add hot glue where the frames touch. Hold in place until set.
Step 4: Create a Stem
Cut short [ieces of the jute rope and glue them together. Trim the ends and glue them to the shamrock. This will give it that finished shamrock look.
Step 5: Attach Accents
Using hot glue, add some ribbon ribbon (or attach a premade bow) to the shamrock. This helps create a finished look. You can add your bow wherever you wish.
Some of our favourite bow choices are
- Big and bold
- 🌿 Rustic burlap
- ✨ Gold and glittery
Step 6: Add a Hanger
Loop twine or ribbon through the top of one heart and knot securely. Make sure it’s centred so your shamrock hangs evenly.
hang and enjoy!

Tips and FAQS

Alternative to jute rope
I am using some leftover jute rope from making rope wreaths. It works well because it is thick enough to cover the wire frames of the heart. Hood options are thick chenille yarn or fabric strips. The goal is to cover the wire frame and give the shamrock definition, so experiment with the things you like.
Storing and Reusing
This shamrock wall hanging stores well. It is sturdy and will last for years to come. Just wrap it in a piece of tissue paper to keep it clean and store it in a storage box. The rattan can absorb moisture and odours, so a dry odour-free area is reccomended.
Styling Ideas
- Add a small “Lucky” wood sign in the center.
- Make multiples and place them in shadow boxes. Display them in a line for a classic look.
- Spray lightly with green spray paint for a deeper colour
- Weave in fairy lights for nighttime sparkle
- Make multiples and hang them vertically using a bold green ribbon from the top to below the bottom shamrock.

This DIY St. Patrick’s Day shamrock door hanger is the perfect way to add festive charm to your entryway without spending a fortune. Using simple dollar store wire straw hearts makes the process easy, and the results look surprisingly high-end.
It’s a great afternoon craft and can even be made with older kids (with supervision for hot glue).
