If you have a stack of old jeans taking up space in your closet, don’t toss them just yet! Denim is a strong, versatile fabric that’s perfect for upcycling projects. One creative and practical way to give your jeans new life is by turning them into denim napkin rings. These charming rings add a rustic, casual touch to your table setting and are perfect for everything from everyday meals to summer barbecues.

Supplies List
- Denim- Old jeans or jacket
- Velcro
- Decorative buttons
- Needle and thread
- Scissors
- Hot Glue

How to Make Denim Napkin Rings
Step 1: Cut Your Denim Strips
Cut the waistband (or cuffs) from the jeans (or jackets). Measure and cut them into strips about 1 6-7 inches long. You can adjust the length depending on how thick your napkins are and by how much denim you have available.
Step 2: Shape the Rings
Form each denim section into a ring by overlapping the ends by about half an inch.
Step 3: Add Velcro
Use a hot glue gun or needle and thread to adhere the velcro. Hold in place for a few seconds to make sure the glue sets.
Step 3: Add Button
If you are recycling an old denim jacket, you can use the buttons, but if you are using jeans, you might like to create some aged buttons (unless you have a button fly and can use the extra buttons)
Get creative and personalize your napkin rings. Here are a few fun ideas:
- Buttons or snaps from the jeans for a coordinated look
- Twine or lace wrapped around the ring for a farmhouse feel
- Iron-on patches or small fabric flowers
- Stitching details for a hand-crafted appearance
Glue or sew these extras onto the ring as desired.
Step 4: Use and Enjoy!
Slide your finished denim rings over cloth napkins and place them on your table. They instantly add texture and a handmade touch to your decor. They also make a lovely gift set for friends who love entertaining or handmade crafts.

Tips and FAQs
Storing – Undo the velcro and store flat for best results.
Variations
Use different colours of denim or different washes. Dark-wash denim gives a more classic, polished look, while light-wash or distressed denim adds a casual vibe. White, Red and other colours of denim are great for themed parties, such as red, white and blue denim for the 4th of July, green denim for a Christmas get-together, or purples and pinks for birthday parties.
These also make a cute handmade gift or a conversation piece for themed parties or bridal showers, a variation. Add trims such as lace, sequins or HTV designs for a more blinged-out appearance.
Use themed buttons such as 4th of July buttons for a 4th of July BBQ, unicorn or flower buttons for parties and picnics, snowman buttons and so on. This is an easy, economical way to add a little extra pop and charm to the table. These make a cute handmade gift or a conversation piece for themed parties or bridal showers.

Repurposing jeans into napkin rings is not only creative—it’s sustainable. Give your table décor a new story with each pair of jeans you upcycle! Enjoy and stay tuned for more great crafting ideas.
