Looking for a fun and easy craft project that adds a cozy, handmade touch to your home? A loop yarn wreath is perfect! Not only is it simple to make, but it’s also highly customizable. You can match it to your favourite colours, seasons, or holiday themes. In this post, we’ll guide you step by step on how to make your own stunning loop yarn wreath

What You’ll Need
Before you start, gather these basic supplies:
- Wire wreath form
- Loop Yarn (see how much you need below
- Scissors
- Pool Noodle
- Masking Tape
- Canary Cutter
- Hot Glue Gun and glue
- Optional embellishments: Mini ornaments, flowers, ribbons, or greenery
How to Make a Loop Yarn Wreath
Prepare the Form
Cut the pool noodle into manageable sections and then cut them lengthwise. I am using a canary cutter, which is a great tool for cutting foam and cardboard. If you don’t have one, use whatever you are comfortable using.
Force the cut pieces of the pool noodle into the wire frame. This will require bending the noodle to fit the wire form.
Secure the noodle pieces with masking tape by wrapping the tape tightly around the form.
Wrap the Yarn
Start wrapping the yarn around the form.
When starting the wrapping, keep the beginning piece under the first couple of times around the wreath. This will secure the loose end.
Wrap the yarn tightly and slightly overlap as you go. This results in a fuller and fluffier wreath.
When you get to the end of the wreath, cut between the loops and secure the loose end to the back of the wreath with hot glue, or tuck it under the other yarn.
Add a Hanger
If you would like to add a hanger, insert a wire on the back of the wreath. Thread it in between a couple of wraps of yarn and twist it to hold together in a loop.
Alternatively, you can use a wreath hanger.
Fluff and Hang
Fluff up the wreath, making sure that the loops are not compressed.
Hang or embellish to match your decor or occasion.

Tips for Success

How much Yarn is needed?
Here is a quick guide based on our experience. Some variations that alter the amount or yarn needed include: the width of the pool noodle, the diameter of the wire wreath frame and how tightly you wind the yarn, so keep in mind this is approximate.
- 8-inch wire wreath frame (like the dollar store ones) requires approximately 1 skein that is 0.22 lb 100g/3.5oz, approx 8 meters/8.7yards.
- 12-inch wreath – wire frame with 1/2 lengthwise pool noodle insert requires approximately 2 skeins
- 16 -inch wreath – wire form with pool noodle insert requires approximately 2 1/2 skeins.
Storing Instructions
Store your loop yarn wreath flat away from other items that compress the yarn.
Store away from moisture and odours as the yarn is absorbent.
When unpacking, if you find the loops are flat, try fluffing them up by hand. If it is stubborn and not fluffing, a quick steaming and fluffing should bring it back to life.
Variations and Embellishments
A loop yarn wreath can be used for any occasion; just add a few simple embellishments.
- Mix textures: Use a combination of yarns – After the loop yarn wreath is complete, add strands of glitter yarn into it. for a dynamic look.
- Colour play: Try blending two or three complementary colours for a vibrant effect.
- Seasonal touches: Add small decorations that match the season, such as pumpkins for fall, flowers for spring, or ornaments for winter holidays.
I hope you have enjoyed this easy tutorial. A loop yarn wreath is a simple yet charming way to bring warmth and style to your space. Plus, it’s a fun project to do solo or with kids. Once you get the hang of it, you’ll want to make one for every season!
