What you’ll need

How to Make a DIY Sheep Wreath

Step 1: Create Wreath Form

Cut the pool noodle into a couple of short lengths and then slice lengthwise.

Place cut pool noodle sections into the wire form and secure with masking tape.

Repeat to fill the entire wire form.

Step 2: Wrap the Wreath

Start by attaching the end of your loop yarn to the back of the wreath form with hot glue. Loop and wrap the yarn around the wreath, pushing the loops close together to create a full, fluffy look. Continue until the entire wreath form is covered, then secure the end with glue.

Tip: The tighter the loops, the fluffier your sheep will look!

Step 2: Create the Sheep’s Face

For cutting machine users, just download the Free SVG and upload it to your cutting machine canvas. Resize and cut. I reccomend ad used a standard grip cutting mat and a deep point blade.

For printable pattern users: I have provided two sizes of face patterns. One is for an 8-inch wreath and the other for a 10-12-inch wreath.

If using a cutting machine, resize to fit your wreath.

If using a printable pattern, you can resize it in Canva or a similar graphic program if the two sizes provided do not work for you.

If you’d like to add a mouth, you can do this now, before attaching the head to the wreath.

Attach Googly eyes to the sheep wreath face using hot glue.

Step 3: Attach the Face

Position the face slightly toward the upper left of the center of the wreath. Once you’re happy with the placement, hot glue it securely onto the yarn-covered wreath.

Create and Attach the Legs

Using black foam clay, roll two one inch size (approximate) balls

Using a wooden skewer, insert it into the foam ball, creating a hole large enough for the twine to pass through.

Thread a piece of twine through each foam ball and tie off one end. If you created the hold too large, squeeze it closed, but be careful to maintain the ball shape.

Attach the legs to the wreath by tying the twine to the back of the wreath, and offset the legs slightly.

Hang and enjoy!

Tips for Success

Customizing your Sheep Wreath

  • Use pastel loop yarn for a whimsical look or to match your decor.
  • Make mini versions for baskets or windows
  • Add flowers or greenery for a spring farmhouse vibe
  • Personalize with a name tag for gifts

Alternative Forms

You can easily substitute the wired wreath form with a floral foam form. Follow the same instructions above.

If using any type of styrofoam form, make sure you use a low-temperature hot glue gun. Some types of styrofoam melt easily and quickly and can become deformed. Consider tuc king in the yarn instead of gluing it.

Creating your own cardboard wreath form is a great idea and eco friendly way to recycle cardboard. Either use it flat or glue a cut pool noodle to both sides to get the round shape.

Alternative to Loop Yarn

Loop yarn can be hard to find, so using a very thick chenille yarn is a great alternative. Check out our Yarn wreath that we made using simple chenille yarn. You can still get that gorgeous, fluffy look.

Storing your Sheep Wreath

Yarn wreaths can go flat when stored, but you can easily fluff them up. To minimize the need for fluffing, store in a separate box and do not place objects up against it. Store in a clean, dry place. If the wreath is in a damp place, it can absorb moisture, increasing the chance of mould.

To fluff up a flat wreath, just give it a good shake. If it does not fluff up, lightly steam it and fluff it up.

This easy DIY sheep wreath is a fun, cozy craft that adds instant charm to your home. With just a wreath form, loop yarn, and a few simple supplies, you can create a fluffy decoration that’s perfect for spring and Easter decorating.
