How to Make a Christmas Cat Wreath

We are using our DIY Yarn Wreath as our base for our cat Christmas wreath. It is super easy to make. Just follow these simple steps (or watch the video)

Construct the Base Wreath

1 – Using your canary cutter, cut the pool noodle into two pieces, long enough to go around the wire wreath form.

2 – Cut the noodle pieces in half lengthwise.

3 – Press the noodle halves into the wreath frame, bending them to fit. Wrap with masking tape to secure in place. Trim if necessary.

4 – Start wrapping the wreath with yarn. Keep the yarn straight as you cover the noodle and continue around the wire frame. Push the yarn to the side to keep the wreath full and fluffy.

5 – Once you have the wreath fully covered, trim the yarn and tie it to the frame and tuck the end under the existing yarn.

6 – Fluff the yarn and set the wreath aside.

7 – For cutting machine users.

  • Download the SVG and upload it into your software program. ( I am using Cricut, so I will be referring to Design Space hereon in)
  • Load the design onto the canvas and Ungroup.
  • Hide any designs you wish to ignore.
  • Resize as desired.
  • Adhere the EVA foam to your cutting mat.
  • Select “Make” and choose materials and tools. * If your machine is not able to coat the foam, you can always cut a pattern from cardstock and use it to cut out your pattern pieces.

For Printable Pattern Users

  • Download the Printable pattern. If you wish to resize, you can enlarge the design using any photo editing program or load it into Canva and resize the cat cutouts.
  • Cut out the pattern pieces and use them as a guide to cut the EVA foam.
  • Cut the foam with sharp scissors or an X-Acto knife.

8 – Add the Mini Ornaments

Use a needle and thread, and thread through the ornament hanger and into the yarn wreath. Stagger the length of the thread so that the ornaments hang at different lengths.

9 – Place the foam cat cutouts onto the front of the wrath and secure in place with hot glue.
