How to Make a Halloween Eyeball Flower

Prep The Flower

Start by gently opening the petals of the black rose. If the center is too tight, snip a few petals to make space for the eyeball. If you snip petals out, you can always add them back in with a little hot glue to help make the finished flower look fuller.

Ensure that the base of the petals has a flat surface so that the eyeball can be glued in easily. If it is not flat, it will be difficult to get the ball to sit straight.

Glue on the Eyeball

Test fit the eyeball before adding glue. Make any adjustments to the flower as needed. Once you’re happy with the placement, apply a liberal amount of hot glue to the center of the flower. Place the eyeball into the glue (centered) and press it firmly into the center of the rose. Hold for a few seconds until the glue sets

If you wish to make your eyeball flower a little more elegant, add a touch of glitter

Secure the Flower

Adhere the floral foam to the center of the base of your cloche with hot glue. Insert the eyeball flower into the foam, pull the stem back out, and add some hot glue. Then, reinsert the stem to secure it in place.

Bunch up the fabric and arrange it around the base of the flower to cover the foam. (Some sheer fabrics melt – test it first, if gluing and if it melts, use tacky glue that dries clear)

Add the Cloche

Fit the cloche over the rose and display.

Tips and FAQs

What about different types of plastic eyeballs?

The type of eyeball I am using in this craft is a half-round hollow eyeball. The ping pong ball style is a little more difficult to work with, but they are more readily available (usually can be found at most \dollar stores during Halloween season). If you are using a ball style, remove the center of the flower. Be careful not to remove too much, as this can cause the petals to fall off. Create a flat center and glue in the ball. If you find it is sticking out too far, push down the back of the eyeball a little. Just enough to make the ball sit flatter. You can use a hammer and just lightly tap the back of it. Be gentle and hold onto it while doing this to prevent the front from folding inward.

Once it is less round, the ball should be ready to glue into the rose.

Using an alternative fabric.

This is a great way to get rid of some leftover scraps of fabric. I love the look of the sheer, but you can use anything that you like. Some fabrics don’t work well, such as bulky fabrics like leather or uphostery fabric, but just about any type will work. Just bunch it around the base to cover the floral foam, and you are done.

You will achieve the best look if the fabric colour coordinates with the rose.

Alternatives to a wood slice base

Any round flat object will work as long as it fits the cloche. Some cloches come with a base. The important thing is that it fits your cloche and is a smooth, flat surface.

Using different types of foam.

Almost any foam will work for your eyeball flower. Keep in mind that sme foam melts when exposed to hot glue. Test the foam fist before trying to glue it to your base. You could also use air-dry clay. Just make a base, add a hole for the stem, let it dry, and then glue it to the base and add your eyeball flower to it.

Adding Lighting

Adding lighting to your eyeball Flower gives your creation a spooky glommer. Use wire LED lights and just hide the battery under the fabric, or use balloon lights, which are hidden under the sheer fabric. Keep in mind, if you have opted for an opaque fabric, you will need to add tiny holes for the lights to show through or hide the string in the folds.

This easy-to-make eyeball flower is super easy, budget-friendly, and impactful. The contrast of the dark petals with the bright, eerie eyeball is guaranteed to catch attention—and maybe even cause a few chills!
