How to Make a Felt Grinch Garland
Download the free Grinch Garland pattern from our free resource library.
Each pattern contains one face shape, face markings, a hat, a hat brim, and a Pom-Pom.
Using a Cutting Machine
Download the Grinch Garland SVG and upload it into your cutting machine program. I am using Cricut Design Space and will refer to it throughout this section. This pattern is a plain SVG file and will work with any machine that supports SVGs.
For each double-sided Grinch Garland Head, cut the following pieces on your cutting machine:
- 2 Grinch head pieces from stiff green felt
- 2 Grinch hat pieces from stiff red felt
- 1 HTV piece of facial lines from black heat transfer vinyl
- 2 Hat Trim from faux fur
To make a one-sided Grinch Garland, cut the Following:
- 2 Grinch head pieces from stiff green felt
- 1 Grinch hat piece from stiff green felt
- 1 grincha facial lines piece from black heat transfer vinyl
- 1 Fur hat trim piece from faux fur
Faux fur can be cut on some cutting machines. I find it quite messy and choose to cut it with scissors.
If you prefer, you can make the hat trim and pompom from felt. Just cut a rectangle to size for the trim and a circle for the pom pom.
Duplicate these pieces for each head on your Grinch Garland.
Before cutting, resize if desired. This is one of the great things about a cutting machine. If you want to make small felt Grinches for adding to gift tags or hairpieces. It is so easy.
Add the facial details.
Mirror the face line design and apply it to the felt using a heat press. Follow the package instructions for temp and time to press.
I ampre4xssing for 30 seconds, firm pressure at 280°F. Check your product instructions before pressing.

Face pattern – Use the printable face line pattern as a template to add the lines. A fabric marker or fabric puff paint is a great option. Alternatively, you can use fabric tracing paper to add lines onto the felt and then go over them with fabric paint.
Assemble the Grinch Garland
On a Flat surface, lay one Grinch face piece flat. This is the back piece of the head.
Run a bead of hot glue across the upper part of the face.
Place your ribbon or cord onto the glue and press.
Line up the top of the face piece and adhere with hot glue.
Add the hat, covering the Grinch’s hair if you want a hat. If you don’t want a hat, consider just leaving it as is or adding a tuft of green faux fur.
Space the Grinch heads apart, as close or a far as you want and repeat.
Allow everything to dry, and hang your Grinch garland where everyone can see your beautiful handiwork.

Other uses for the Grinch Garland Faces.
This project is incredibly versatile. You don’t have to stop at garlands! Each felt Grinch face can be used as a standalone ornament by adding a ribbon loop, or turned into a gift tag for holiday presents by simply gluing it to cardstock. Add a cluster of the Grinch faces to a wreath for a fun Grinch-themed wreath. Add a skewer in between the layers, and you’ve got a flower pick, or how about a fridge magnet? Just add some magnetic tape to the back and it’s ready to stick. Glue a Grinch face to a hair clip for crazy hair day.
I hope you enjoy this whimsical Christmas craft for a felt Grinch Garland.
