Print the Sublimation Design

If you have opted for a differently sized bag, resize the design. (in your image to fit your bag. Don’t forget to take into account the string location on the bag. Canva, Inkscape or other graphics program)

Before printing the sublimation design, mirror the image. Our image will be transferred face down. If you forget to mirror, the design will be backwards.

Make sure you have optimized your printer settings for sublimation printing. Choose the best quality in your printer settings and specialty paper or matte photo paper. Different brands of sublimation printers offer different options, so check before printing.

Print the image and trim accordingly.

Apply Design to the sublimation blank bag

Set your heat press temperature. I typically use 400F for 100 percent polyester. Check the fabric type of your bag.

Remove the drawing from the bag. (i learned this the hard way when my first one melted)

Use a lint roller and remove any unseen lint from the bag.

Preheat the blank treat bag for about 5 seconds to remove any moisture and wrinkles from the bag.

Position your printed sublimation design onto the bag.

Secure it in place with heat transfer tape.

Slip a piece of cardstock into the bag. This is just a precautionary step in case there is bleeding between the layers.

Cover with parchment paper.

Press for approximately 45-55 seconds using medium to high pressure. If you are using an easy press of hand guided press, be sure to be still to prevent ghosting.

While wearing heat-resistant gloves, peel away the design. You may need to let it cool for a few seconds, but don’t allow it to cool too much.

Once you have removed the design, let the bag cool for a few minutes.

Fill the Bag

That’s it, you are ready to fill your St. Patrick’s Day Treat Bags.

We love to use candy that reflects St. Patric’ks Day. We are using chocolate coins, but there are many options.

About the Blank Bag used in this project

The bag used in this project is a 4-inch by 6-inch sublimation blank. The top drawstring is one inch below the top edge. These measurements are important in the overall design, as you don’t want to have to try to print over the drawstring.

If purchasing drawstring bags at a dollar storeor other retailers, look for at least 65% polyester content. Ideally, the best results are achieved with 100% polyester, but other bags will work as well, as long as there is at least 65% polyester. When purchaseing non sublimation blanks, results can vary. So do a test bag to check out the results before buying or producing multiple bags.

Creative Uses for These Treat Bags
