Mother’s Day is the perfect time to share love, gratitude, and encouragement and what better way than with a handmade gift that carries both beauty and meaning? These DIY Scriptural Mother’s Day Flower Cards are simple to make, budget-friendly, and heartfelt. They’re slightly larger than a bookmark and include a thoughtful Bible verse, plus a ribbon that ties around a real flower such as a carnation or rose. Once the flower is removed, the card doubles as a lovely bookmark!
These make wonderful handouts at church services, brunches, outreach events, women’s ministries, or school celebrations. They’re easy enough to make in batches and special enough to feel personal.

How to Make Mother’s Day Flower Cards
1. Download and Print the Cards
Start by downloading the free printable Mother’s Day flower cards. (Button Below)
They are designed as a large bookmark-style size and already include the Scripture verse, so all the wording is done for you.
Print the cards on white or pastel 8.5 by 11-inch cardstock for the best sturdiness and colour quality.

2. Cut Out the Cards
Using scissors, cut along the provided trim lines.
Each card will be slightly larger than a standard bookmark, which is perfect for tying a flower without crowding the verse.
3. Punch the Ribbon Hole
On the upper part of each card, use a hole punch to make a single clean hole.
This is where your bookmark ribbon will thread through.
Add an eyelet to the top hole for a more polished, professional look. (optional)
Punch two more holes about halfway down the card. There will be a hole on each side of the stem that will hold the flower in place.
4. Prepare Your Ribbon
Cut ribbon into two 10-12-inch pieces.
Satin, grosgrain, or organza ribbon all work beautifully.
Thread a ribbon through the top hole for the bookmark. Create a loop and pull it snugly to secure in place., This is optional; if you don’t wish for a bookmark ribbon, omit this step.
Thread the ribbon through the punched side holes so both ends hang on the front of the card.
5. Add a Fresh Flower
Lay a flower stem, such as a carnation or rose, vertically on the front of the card.
Tie the ribbon around the stem in a bow.
It should be snug enough to hold the flower in place but gentle enough not to damage the stem
6. Share or handout.
Store finished cards in a cool spot. If storing for more than an hour, add a water pick to the base and stand them upright in a container until it’s time to share them.
Carnations hold up especially well without water and are ideal for church handouts or large gatherings.
Where to share
These printable Mother’s Day flower cards make touching, meaningful gifts at:
- Church services
- Women’s ministry events
- Community brunches
- School Mother’s Day celebrations
Recipients can enjoy the fresh flower, then later use the card as a bookmark once the stem is removed.
Tips for Best Results
Cardsrock Choices
For durability, I recommend a sturdy, heavy printable cardstock. Glossy or satin finish creates a nice, professional, polished look, but if you are making them in large numbers, it can add to the cost.
When choosing colour, go for a light pastel or an off-white. The print can disappear or be difficult to read on darker colours.
Alternatives to Ribbon
Anything that adds a decorative touch will work fine. Stay away from stretchy cord. Some options that work incredibly well are:
- Jute twine
- Yarn
- Rafia
- Leather cord.
Hole Punch Choices
I am adding an eyelet to all of the holes. It prevents ripping and makes threading easy, and looks a little more polished. This step is optional, and the cards are still beautiful without the eyelets.
If you are not adding an eyelet, a regular hole punch works fine. If you have a decorative punch, by all means use it.

DIY Mother’s Day Flower Cards are a thoughtful and joyful way to celebrate the mothers, grandmothers, caregivers, and women who make a difference every day. They’re simple to create, elegant to present, and meaningful to receive. Whether you’re making them for a church congregation or a community gathering, these little cards carry a big message of appreciation and love.
