Supplies Needed

How to Make a Sheep Craft from a Recycled CD

If you wish to use our face pattern for your sheep craft project, feel free to download it by clicking the button below. The file includes a free printable pattern, as well as an SVG for a cutting machine.

When searching the library for the Sheep Craft Project Patterns, they can be found under the Everyday DIY category

Step 1: Add legs

Begin with a clean, recycled CD. This will form the body of your sheep.

Set the CD on your work surface.

Choose how long you want the legs and cut to the desired length if necessary.

Attach the legs to the CD using hot glue.

Allow to dry.

Step 2: Cover the CD with Wool

Apply a small amount of hot glue to the center of the CD.

Press the end of the wool yarn into the glue and begin winding it around itself in a tight spiral. Continue adding small amounts of hot glue as needed while wrapping the yarn.

Keep the wool yarn tight and centred on the Cd as you continue gluing.

Work your way outward from the center until the entire CD is covered with thick wool.

The fluffy texture of the wool creates the perfect sheep’s fleece and completely hides the CD underneath.

Step 3: Cover the Back

Cover the back of the CD in the same way. If you don’t want to, feel free to cover the back with felt, EVA Craft foam, cork or fabric, cut to fit.

Step 4: Make the Sheep’s Face

Feel free to download and use our sheep face pattern (Printable or SVG), or if you feel inclined, create one of your own.

Cut out the desired face, using a cutting machine or a pair of scissors.

Add eyes using hot glue.

Adhere the face to the wool-covered CD. You can offset it or place it in the middle, whichever you prefer.

Note – If you offset the face, make sure you have completely covered the center hole with wool.

Step 5: Create the Base

Attach a small block of floral foam to a wood-slice base with hot glue.

Press the sheep’s dowel legs into the floral foam.

Attach some Spanish moss to the floral foam and to the wood base, covering the floral foam.

Adjust the legs until the sheep stands upright and balanced.

Allow the glue to dry completely.

Optional – Add a small piece of felt under the wood slice to protect the surface of your furniture.

Step 6: Display Your Whimsical Sheep

Once everything is dry and secure, your sheep is ready to display.

The long legs and fluffy wool body create a fun, whimsical look that fits perfectly with farmhouse, cottage, and rustic decorating styles.

Place your sheep on a shelf, mantel, entry table, or tiered tray to add a touch of handmade charm to your home.

These sheep look amazing displayed in multiples. Use any colour you like.

Tips for Success

  • Use chunky wool yarn for the fluffiest sheep.
  • Apply hot glue in small sections so it doesn’t cool before the yarn is attached.
  • Add a small bow around the neck for extra charm.
  • Create a whole flock using different wool colours.

Supplies Alternatives

Wooden Dowels

Feel free to substitute the wood dowel legs for other supplies. Some easy substitutes include wooden skewers, Candy sticks, popsicle sticks, and appetizer sticks.

For a recycled alternative, you can use painted or patterned pencils.

Yarn Alternatives

The yarn used in the tutorial is a wool arm knitting yarn. It is very hard to find, so I have used the velvet arm knitting yarn in the supplies list. Any chunky, fuzzy-looking yarn is a good alternative.

A non-yarn alternative is white rope or thin cosplay foam tubing.

Base Alternatives

A basic alternative that I have used successfully is air-dry clay. Form it into the shape of a stone and insert the legs, and then allow it to dry.

A drilled wood block also works. Just mark where the legs go and drill one hole for each leg. Add a little hot glue and insert the legs.

Variations to Try

Spring Sheep

Use pastel or white wool and add pastel accents.

Farmhouse Sheep

Choose natural wool tones and a rustic clay base.

Colorful Sheep

Use bright or variegated yarn for a playful decorative piece.

Easter Sheep

Display your sheep alongside Easter eggs and spring flowers.

This DIY sheep craft from a recycled CD is proof that everyday items can be transformed into something adorable. The fluffy wool-covered body, whimsical long legs, and simple foam face combine to create a charming decoration that looks right at home in farmhouse and cottage-style decor.
